Kindness Needs Clarity
Caring about people and holding a standard are not competing leadership philosophies.
Earlier in my leadership career, I waited too long to make a people decision because I wanted to give more time and more opportunity. The intention felt humane. The impact on the team was not.
I learned that people deserve clarity early: what good looks like, where the gap is, what support exists, how progress will be measured and what happens if the gap remains.
Kindness without clarity can become avoidance. Accountability delivered fairly and early is often the more respectful choice.
Experience becomes useful when it changes how you operate.
